Quinta de Guimarães has open its doors to the public in 2005. The “Quinta de Guimarães” is a private manor house, turned into a guest house. It is located at the limit of the Oporto region and at the renowned “Vinho Verde” designated vineyard region, holding a gorgeous view over the river Douro. The Quinta de Guimarães stays at the right side of Douro river and the main house is a sunny home built in 1720, which presents all the characteristics of the Portuguese baroque style. It is integrated in a bounded ground of 40 hectares state, being 6 of woods and 25 of Vineyards. From the house you can admire a fantastic view over the vineyard or Resende (the nearest village), but from the most part of the gardens you can enjoy a gorgeous view over the river.
With vast horizon on both sides, it is sheltered only on the East side by a mountain with big, thick woods that protect the house against the storms and squalls of Soão. The frontage turned south has a graceful view of Resende, which can nearly all be seen and the North’s frontage is completed on the East side with the Chapel of Our Lady of Conception.
We enter the house by the frontage turned north through a staircase which takes us to the entrance living-room, where we may admire the cambered ceiling with original paintings, traditional of the XVIIIth century, the coat of arms of the Fonseca Family detached. The estate belongs nowadays and for almost 150 years to the Family Cunha Coutinho.
Inside the Villa there is a house in ruins where Jerónimo Caldas lived. He was a part of the José do Telhado’s gang (a true story written in a book from the 19th century).
With 25 hectares of vineyard inside the farms limits and 15 hectares outside it, the Family is a wine - producer for 7 generations already. However in 2008, for the first time in the Family’s history, it was created a brand named CAZAS NOVAS, name that belongs to another Farm, built for the Family in the XVIIIth century and which still stands in the family. Both Farms belong to the renowned “Vinho Verde” designated vineyard region. The CAZAS NOVAS is an intense, living and very fresh wine with floral, citric and tropical flavors. It is perfect for cocktails, as an appetizer, with fish, shellfish or birds dishes or sushi.
Meals are served to our guests according to the local various choices in the living-room at the main house, at the apartment, between the vineyards or at the loft, where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the river Douro’s turnabouts.
